About Us

About Us

Thank you for visiting our website. We invite you to be with us any time you can. It is our sincere desire to worship God in a way which is acceptable to Him.

Now, let me tell you a little about our church family.

First of all, we are not a denomination. Denominations are not mentioned in the Bible and so we simply call ourselves Christians. As for the name “Church of Christ,” Paul used this name in his greeting to the Romans in 16:16, and therefore it is appropriate for us to use it as an identifier today. We strive to be a church that is “of” or “following after” Christ.

Second, we are not governed by any board, council, conference, convention, synod or ecclesiastical assembly. Such did not exist in the first century when the church was established, and if those Christians didn’t need ‘em, neither do we. We are governed by the authority of Jesus Christ as revealed to us in the Bible (I Cor. 2:16). Therefore, we simply try to do what God has told us to do in His word.

Third, our preacher is not “the Pastor.” Modern day denominations have for the past few years used the term “pastor” to mean the preacher. But in the New Testament the term “pastor” is synonymous with the words shepherd or overseer or elder. The qualifications of elders (pastors, overseers) are mentioned in I Timothy 3 and Titus 1. In Ephesians 4 the work of pastors is mentioned separately from the work of “evangelists” or preachers. Our preacher preaches, our elders shepherd, just as the New Testament indicates.

Fourth, we do not use funds collected on the first day of the week for recreational activities. You may note that we have no gymnasium or family recreation center. We are certainly not against having fun, playing games and sports or having a meal together. However, no passage or principle in God’s word indicates that we should use His resources for those good pursuits. As Paul emphasized in I Corinthians 11:22,  we have homes to eat in, and therefore we will not introduce social activities and meals into the worship assembly, nor use His money for such. Social fellowship has its place, to be sure, but according to Paul, its place is the home.

And fifth, as you will notice when you visit with us, we do not use musical instruments in our worship assembly. While it certainly is true that God-fearing folks under the Old Law were instructed to use instruments in their worship (II Chronicles 29:25, Psalm 150 and many other passages) we understand that we are no longer under that law (Col. 2:14-17) and therefore not duty-bound to it (and aren’t we thankful we don’t have to offer sacrifices on an altar!) However, we are under the “Law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2) and are bound to obey it and instruments are conspicuously absent therein. In Colossians 3:16  we are instructed to “teach and admonish one another in songs, hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:19  says we should speak to each other, sing, and make melody in our hearts. Both passages call on us to sing – neither commands us to play an instrument, and so we do not. Rest assured, many of our members are musically talented and can play various instruments. But not in the assembly, for Paul tells us to “sing.”

I hope this bit of information will help you understand who we are and what we do.

Again, thank you for visiting our website. Your interest in spiritual things encourages us along. We trust you will appreciate our sincere desire to please God as we worship together. Please let us know if we can be of service to you.
